How to Create Custom Circle Labels

Circle labels are perfect for product labels, envelope seals, jar lids, promotional stickers, and more. Label Maker supports various round label sizes from major brands.

Common Uses for Circle Labels

  • Product labels - Jar lids, bottles, containers
  • Envelope seals - Wedding invitations, thank you cards
  • Promotional stickers - Sales, new product badges
  • Organization - Color-coded dots for filing
  • Crafts - Scrapbooking, gift tags
  • Food labels - Homemade preserves, spices

Step 1: Find a Circle Label Template

  1. Open Label Maker: ExtensionsLabel MakerCreate Labels
  2. In the Template dropdown, search for:
    • "circle" or "round"
    • Your specific product code (e.g., "Avery 5294")
    • The diameter (e.g., "2 inch round")
  3. Select your desired template
  • 0.75" round - Small dots, color coding (Avery 5472)
  • 1" round - Small seals, reward stickers
  • 1.5" round - Medium stickers, logo labels
  • 2" round - Product labels, jar lids (Avery 5294)
  • 2.5" round - Large promotional stickers
  • 3" round - Large jar labels, signage

Step 2: Design Your Circle Label

Circle labels require some special design considerations:

Center Your Content

  1. Click inside the label cell
  2. Select all content (Ctrl/Cmd + A)
  3. Set paragraph alignment to Center
  4. Use vertical spacing to center content top-to-bottom

Stay Within the Circle

  • Remember: the table cell is square, but the label is round
  • Keep text and images away from corners—they'll be cut off
  • Visualize a circle inside the square cell
  • Leave about 0.1" margin from the edge of the circle

Text Design Tips

  • Use shorter text that fits well in a circle
  • Stack multiple short lines rather than one long line
  • Consider curved text for a professional look (create in a design tool, then insert as image)
  • Bold, simple fonts work best at small sizes

Step 3: Add Images (Optional)

Circle labels are often image-focused:

Full-Bleed Images

For an image that fills the entire label:

  1. Insert your image (should be square or circular)
  2. Resize to fill the cell completely
  3. Content at the corners will be cut off by the circular die-cut
  4. Keep important content centered

Centered Logo

  1. Insert your logo image
  2. Size it smaller than the label diameter
  3. Center align the image
  4. Add text above or below as needed

Important: Google Docs doesn't display circular cells—you'll see squares. The actual printed label will be circular based on the die-cut of your label paper.

  1. Click Create Labels to generate the output document
  2. Go to FilePrint
  3. Set Margins to None
  4. Set Scale to 100%
  5. Do a test print on plain paper
  6. Hold test against your label sheet to verify alignment
  7. Print on your circle label paper

Troubleshooting

Text gets cut off at edges

  • Move content away from corners
  • Reduce text size or use fewer words
  • Remember the printable area is circular, not square

Content appears off-center when printed

  • Use center alignment for all content
  • Add equal padding above and below text
  • Check that your label paper matches the selected template

Image looks square on circle labels

  • The display in Google Docs shows square cells—this is normal
  • The physical labels are die-cut into circles
  • Any content in corners will not appear on the final printed label
